The Nebraska Grain and Feed Association’s (NGF) OSHA Grain Facility Surveillance Program and Plant Safety Seminar will be held on June 23, 2011, in Lincoln at the NGF Office basement conference room.  The seminar is intended to assist the industry in understanding their compliance obligations under the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) regulations.  The seminar is in response to NGF members who are requesting additional information on OSHA grain handling standards in anticipation of random inspections.  Space will be limited, so please make your reservations early.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has added the grain- handling industry to its so-called “Severe Violator Enforcement Program” (SVEP), which subjects facilities to enhanced inspection, enforcement, and greater financial and criminal penalties under certain conditions.  This year, the dramatic increase in OSHA inspections of Nebraska grain handling facilities has resulted in a number of violations and proposed fines.

Topics will include an update on emerging and evolving OSHA regulatory issues; an overview of OSHA’s compliance assistance program; an update on the OSHA/ Nebraska Department of Labor (NDL) on-site consultation program; guidance on how to develop a safety and health management program that identifies and reduces workplace hazards, and preparing for an OSHA inspection.
